It is a wicked disease that affects nearly every organ in the body, with the lungs and airways being the primary targets. The doctors were skeptical that he would see his first birthday. In fact, they told his parents to take him home and just get through the weekend.

Well, he not only survived that weekend and first birthday, but has thrived in the face of adversity ever since. The constant physical, mental, and emotional battle that comes with such a diagnoses has both toughened and humbled him. Inevitably, hardship also provides the chance to gain wisdom and perspective, and such opportunities for growth he has gratefully accepted.
